Fountain
The fountain beneath Edinburgh Castle, also known as the Ross Fountain, is a historic fountain located in West Princes Street Gardens, near the famous Edinburgh Castle
After almost three years of renovation, the fountain beneath Edinburgh Castle was finally put back into use. The fountain underwent a major overhaul. They replaced and modernized the pumps and nozzles. Unfortunately, for reasons unknown, they also changed the colour. The current colour is too garish and the female figures are painted black instead of gold as they were previously. Maybe someone likes it, but in my opinion the old one suited the surroundings better.
The fountain beneath Edinburgh Castle, also known as the Ross Fountain, is a historic fountain located in West Princes Street Gardens, near the famous Edinburgh Castle. It was designed by the architect Jean-Baptiste Barrière in 1869 and was first operated in 1872.
Over the years the fountain fell into significant disrepair and was taken out of use in 2009. In 2016 restoration work began, which cost around £1.9 million.
The restoration included the complete dismantling and cleaning of the fountain, the replacement of damaged parts, and the introduction of new technologies such as LED lighting. In addition, the restoration involved restoring the fountain's original colour scheme.
In 2018 the fountain beneath Edinburgh Castle was reopened and became one of Edinburgh's major tourist attractions. Its restoration was very well received by locals and tourists, who readily take photos at this beautiful historic landmark.
