Dubrovnik, also known as "the Pearl of the Adriatic", is a charming town located in southern Croatia on the Adriatic coast. It is a popular tourist destination that attracts millions of visitors from around the world thanks to its historic sites, wonderful beaches, and beautiful landscapes.
The city's history dates back to ancient times, with its origins traced to the 6th century BC. In Roman times, Dubrovnik was called Ragusa and was an important commercial and cultural center in the region. In the Middle Ages the city was an independent state that, thanks to its commercial and maritime power, enjoyed great success and grew wealthy. In 1667 Dubrovnik was destroyed by a powerful earthquake, but it was rebuilt and has preserved its beauty to this day.
In Dubrovnik you can see many monuments from different historical periods that have survived through the centuries and attract tourists. The city's most important landmark is the Old Town, which is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Within the Old Town are, among others, the cathedral, the Rector's Palace, the churches of St. Blaise and St. Wenceslaus, and numerous museums.
Dubrovnik is also famous for its beautiful beaches along the Adriatic Sea, which offer tourists many attractions such as fishing, diving, or pedal boating. Nearby you can also visit many attractive places such as Mljet National Park, Korcula, or Cavtat.
Dubrovnik has also been a filming location for many popular movies and TV series, such as "Game of Thrones", "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves", and "The Abduction of Europe". All of this makes the town one of the most popular and most visited places in Croatia.
