Plitvice Lakes
Croatia is a country full of surprises, but none of the guidebooks I read prepared me for what I experienced at Plitvice Lakes National Park. It felt like discovering a completely new world — one that seemed too beautiful to be real.

After a few days of relaxation on the Croatian coast, we decided to head inland. Bus transport it turned out to be the perfect choice – for about 15-20 euros I got a comfortable trip without having to worry about parking or navigation.
The journey from Zadar took just under 2 hours, and every minute felt like a preview of what awaited me. The landscape shifted from coastal to mountainous, the greenery growing more intense. When we finally disembarked at the main entrance, I knew immediately — this was going to be a special day.
Originally I wanted to choose the shortest Route A – quickly and efficiently, to "see the highlights". How wrong I was!
I spontaneously decided on Route B, which turned out to be a true feast for the senses:
- Great Waterfall (78 meters high) – majestic and hypnotic
- Boat ride on Lake Kozjak – a moment of perfect silence surrounded by nature
- Return by tourist train ( We chose to walk and I recommend it more, because walking through that forest was really relaxing )
If you have more time – choose route C. It's my goal for the next visit!
- Ticket in season: about €40 (boat and train included)
- Opening hours: 7:00–20:00
- My tip: arrive before 9:00 to avoid the crowds

The park is not only spectacular travertine lakes formed by the deposition of limestone. It's a living ecosystem, home to lynx, bears, wolves and dozens of bird species. Swimming is prohibited – and that's great! Thanks to that everything remains in its natural, untouched state.
Plitvice Lakes are a place that changes your perspective. The sound of cascading waterfalls, lush greenery, the scent of the forest and an all-pervading sense of harmony – an experience that lingers long in the memory.
This is not another tourist attraction to tick off the list. It's a an encounter with nature in its most beautiful form, a reminder of how small we are as part of something infinitely greater.
