It is located on the southern side of the city and rises to 251 metres above sea level. Arthur's Seat is one of Edinburgh's main viewpoints, offering views over the city, Edinburgh Castle, the sea and the surrounding countryside.
The hill's name comes from legends that say King Arthur had his castle there. Today, the summit features the ruins of an Iron Age fort and a monument to the Scottish philosopher David Hume.
Arthur's Seat is a popular spot with Edinburgh residents and tourists, who come to admire the beautiful views and escape the city's hustle and bustle. The hill can be reached on foot via one of the many paths, or by taking a tourist bus that runs in the area around the hill.
Arthur's Seat is also a popular spot for hiking and running enthusiasts. Numerous footpaths run along the hill's slopes, allowing walks into the surrounding hills and valleys. For those seeking excitement, climbing courses and mountain biking are also offered on the slopes.
