According to one legend, the Old Man of Storr is one of three giants who were invited to the island by the local people to build a bridge between the Isle of Skye and the mainland. The giants began building the bridge but were betrayed by the people, who killed one of them, causing the bridge never to be completed. The remaining rocks on the hill are the remnants of the giants' unfinished work.
