The extremely popular and charming city of Nice (fr. Nice) is located in the south of France, on the Mediterranean Sea, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. The city has around 350,000 inhabitants and is one of the most important tourist centers in France.

The history of the city dates back to ancient times, when it was inhabited by the Ligurians and later by the Greeks and Romans. In the Middle Ages Nice was part of the Republic of Genoa and later the Kingdom of Sardinia. In the 19th century the city became a popular resort for the European aristocracy, which spurred the development of tourism and the hotel industry. In 1860 Nice was annexed to France.
One of Nice's biggest attractions is the Old Port (Vieux Port), which is one of the oldest ports in France. Around the port there are many charming restaurants and cafés offering excellent Mediterranean cuisine. Another popular attraction is Place Garibaldi, named after Giuseppe Garibaldi, the Italian national hero who took part in liberating Italy from Austrian rule.
Another interesting attraction in Nice is Saint Nicholas Cathedral (Cathédrale Saint-Nicolas), which was built in the 13th century and is one of the city's oldest monuments. The cathedral is a splendid example of Gothic architecture.
It's also worth visiting the famous Promenade des Anglais, whose name comes from the English tourists who visited Nice in the 19th century. This promenade stretches along the beach and offers beautiful views of the Mediterranean Sea as well as luxurious hotels and palaces.
One of the most important cultural events in Nice is the International Film Festival, which takes place annually in May and attracts great interest from both residents and tourists.
In Nice you can also try the traditional Provençal dish socca, a chickpea pancake made with olive oil and salt. It's a tasty and filling dish that will certainly satisfy any palate.
