Our first visit to this place, even though we'd been to Skye many times before. Somehow it was never on the way. The drive is fairly quick and only a short stretch along a single-track road with passing places (which I hate). The walk to the lighthouse is quite steep, so be prepared for a bit of effort. The lighthouse is reasonably well maintained, probably because it has to remain operational at all times. A curious trumpet-like structure points out to the open sea. I wonder what it was used for. Probably as an additional safeguard for ships—if the light signal failed, there might have been the option to use an audible signal. Basically, it's a place worth visiting for typical Scottish landscapes: cliffs, mountains, waterfalls and, of course, sheep.

Neist Point Lighthouse is a beautiful and picturesque lighthouse located on the Neist Point peninsula on the western side of the Isle of Skye in Scotland. It is one of Scotland's most famous and photographed lighthouses and a tourist attraction visited by many people.

Neist Point Lighthouse was built in 1909 and is located at the end of a narrow peninsula rising above cliffs that drop into the Sea of the Hebrides. From the lighthouse there is a breathtaking view of the ocean and nearby islets.

With advances in technology, Neist Point Lighthouse lost much of its importance as a navigational aid for ships, and in 1990 it was automated, but it still serves as an important landmark for sailors and continues to play a significant role in maritime safety.

Neist Point is also a popular spot for walks and hikes. The trail to the lighthouse is demanding, but the reward is a stunning view of the cliffs and the ocean. There are also numerous places on the peninsula for wildlife watching, including seals, dolphins and seabirds.

Neist Point Lighthouse is certainly one of the most beautiful places to visit in Scotland, and it's worth taking the time to get there and admire the picturesque view.

The signal horn is mounted at the top of the lighthouse and rotated on rails in different directions so that the sound can be heard in various parts of the ocean. Its sound can be heard by nearby ships and boats, which helps prevent collisions and maintain safety at sea.
