Glenfinnan
Glenfinnan is a small village located in western Scotland, in the Highland council area. The place is known for several tourist attractions, including the impressive viaduct that trains run across, and a historic monument commemorating the Jacobite uprising.
Since the weather looked exceptionally good, we decided to go to Glenfinnan for a day. It’s one of my favourite places in Scotland. Quite magical, really, as I was healed there twice 🙂. No matter the weather, it’s always beautiful there. A few phone photos below.

Here are a few facts about Glenfinnan:
- Jacobite Monument: One of Glenfinnan’s main attractions is the Jacobite Monument, which stands on a hill above Loch Shiel. The monument was erected in 1815 and commemorates the Jacobite Rising of 1745, when Bonnie Prince Charlie attempted to reclaim the Scottish throne.
- Glenfinnan Viaduct: The Glenfinnan Viaduct is an impressive structure that carries the Caledonian Canal over the Glenfinnan valley. The viaduct is 18 metres high and 380 metres long, and trains from Glasgow to Mallaig run across it. The site is popular with tourists who enjoy watching trains pass over the viaduct.
- Glenfinnan Railway Station: Glenfinnan is also a railway station that was built in 1901. The station is known as the departure point for the Jacobite Steam Train, popular with fans of the "Harry Potter" film series as the "Hogwarts Express".
- Beautiful landscapes: Glenfinnan is set in a beautiful area full of mountains, lochs and rivers. Because of this it’s an ideal place for hiking and walks that allow you to admire Scotland’s picturesque scenery.
- Festivals: Several festivals take place in Glenfinnan, including the Glenfinnan Gathering, which is held every year in August. During this festival there are various events, including beauty contests, folk performances and tournaments.
Glenfinnan is a beautiful place that offers many tourist attractions, stunning landscapes and opportunities to relax in nature. It is very popular with tourists who gladly visit Glenfinnan to see the impressive viaduct, commemorate the Jacobite Rising, or simply relax in a picturesque setting.
